The spiral wound membrane modules (SWM) are often preferred
in industry because they offer a good balance between ease of
operation, permeation rate and packing density.
Feed air containing 21 percent oxygen is sent to the membrane separation stage by blower after pass through filter in order to prevent mechanical damage to the membrane material by particulates or droplets.

Feed air is passed through the surface of membrane that preferentially permeates oxygen.

The permeate gas containing approx. 30% oxygen is produced, which can be used a number of processes, for example, in Claus plants and FCC catalyst regeneration in refineries or to more efficiently burn methane in high-temperature furnaces or cement kilns etc.

In the scheme shown, the pressure differential across the membrane
required to drive the process is maintained by drawing a vacuum on the
permeate gas. The power consumption of a vacuum pump is less because the only gas evacuated by the vacuum pump is the oxygen-enriched product that permeates the membrane.


The Principle of Oxygen Enrich Membrane

The OEA membranes we use offer the extraordinary
combination of good stability with excellent membrane
performance. The life of membranes used in air environment is
normally more than ten years.
Oxygen enrichment of air means a more convenient train
traveling at high altitude as well as a better life in mountain
resorts.
Oxygen enrichment of air reduces the energy consumption of
combustion processes. The nitrogen content of air is a burden
for all oxidation reactions. It partly absorbs fuel energy and
increases significantly the amount of exhaust gas.

Up to now the biggest oxygen-enriched air membrane units
in China have been installed and running successfully in hot
blast stove for the Ironmaking Plant of Jinan. The flow rate
of OEA is about 8000 Nm3/h with the oxygen concentration of
30%. Experiments show that when the oxygen content of air
can be increased to 24 percent, the blast temperature is increased
by about 40 centigrade. Consequently the client can gain higher yield
and higher economical profit. The technology which is based
on GKSS membrane to enhance the effect of burning will be
extensively used.
